Sisters in Stitches - A Ministry in Stitchery
By Andrea Conrad
When we were asked what we could do to minister to our community, we thought “Why don't we start a prayer shawl ministry?” So, a few women gathered together to begin this project by doing various needlecraft. Most of the members knit or crochet. There are various skill levels in the group. The fellowship was immediate. We instantly began sharing ideas and patterns; aiding each other to start our project.
The first shawl was complete. We were honored to have it blessed during the March 15 church service. The following Monday evening the sisters banded together to take the shawl and present it to Gerry Nelson who was recovering at home after a long hospital stay involving a kidney transplant. Our church members had been praying for her healing and recovery and now we were presenting her with our first blessed shawl. We are hoping to have many more shawls to bless and present.
We also want to do other projects to help our community. Some of our ideas were to create caps and blankets for newborns, caps for cancer patients, lap robes for those who are ill in the hospital, and blankets for the homeless.
Currently, we have seven in our group, but welcome any who wish to participate. The Sisters meet on the 2nd and 4th Thursdays of the month at 6:30 p.m. in Classroom B.
